SPC Commits to Supporting Pacific REDD+ Activities

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) workshop discussed the findings and recommendations of the UN-REDD Programme's recent Pacific mission.

SPC also noted that, due to the significant investments required for REDD+, not every Pacific Island Country or territory (PICT) will benefit from the mechanism, but SPC will facilitate regional cooperation and provision of services.

21 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has convened a workshop on regional support to REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stock) Readiness in Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs). The workshop took place from 19-20 September 2011, in Nadi, Fiji.

According to SPC, the workshop discussed the findings and recommendations of the UN-REDD Programme’s recent Pacific mission. SPC also noted that, due to the significant investments required for REDD+, not every PICT will benefit from the mechanism, but SPC will facilitate regional cooperation and provision of services.
