The World We WantJune 2014: The World We Want 2015 Platform is hosting six dialogues on proposals for implementing the post-2015 development agenda, following thematic and national consultations in 2012-2013. The consultations are taking place on: partnerships with civil society; culture and development; localizing the post-2015 agenda; helping to strengthen capacities and build effective institutions; participatory monitoring for accountability; and engaging with the private sector.

The ‘Helping to Strengthen Capacities and Build Effective Institutions’ dialogue is considering questions related to: lessons learned from implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), including the impact of the MDGs on national development planning structures and implementation mechanisms; institutions and leadership needed to achieve sustainable human development; citizen participation and ownership of the post-2015 agenda; and measurement of strengthened capacities and effective institutions for sustainable development at national and sub-national levels. UNDP and the International Labour Organization (ILO) serve as the lead agencies for this consultation. National consultations will take place from March to October 2014 in Costa Rica, Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Moldova, Pakistan, Togo and Turkmenistan.

The ‘Engaging with the private sector’ dialogue is focusing on the following themes: developing government policies that drive corporate sustainability; enhancing partnerships; mobilizing private sustainability finance; localizing the architecture for SME engagement; and building trust through enhanced transparency and accountability. The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and UN Global Compact co-lead this consultation. National consultations will take place from April to August 2014 in Mongolia, Mozambique, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Uruguay.

The ‘Localizing the post-2015 agenda’ dialogue, co-led by UNDP, the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the Global Task Force of Local and Regional Governments, is focusing on identifying local solutions and enhancing the local dimension in development. It runs through 18 July 2014.

The ‘Participatory Monitoring and Accountability’ dialogue took place from 2 April to 7 May. It identified experiences of national, regional and global accountability mechanisms for effective post-2015 accountability mechanisms and highlighted examples of innovations that demonstrate innovative local and participatory monitoring activities or initiatives on accountable, transparent, responsive governance at country and local levels. The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN Women and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) co-convened this dialogue. National consultations will take place from March to September 2014 in Albania, Algeria, Bangladesh, Guatemala, Montenegro, Peru, Thailand, Viet Nam and Zambia.

Recommendations arising from the dialogues and consultations will contribute to a report by the UN Development Group (UNDG). This report is expected to inform the Open Working Group (OWG) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Secretary-General’s report on the post-2015 agenda.
