January 2014: The Swedish Water House (SWH) at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) has released a policy report titled ‘Water and Risk: Developing Sustainable and Resilient Communities.’

The report examines three policy areas including: addressing risk before it is created by developing resilience and reducing the need for humanitarian response; targeting the most vulnerable and building local capacity; and addressing urban challenges.

The report also highlights the role that Sweden, as an international donor, could play in the field of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and in the development of a framework to succeed to the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA).

The report identifies the post-2015 development agenda process and the creation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) as one area of action, in particular on mainstreaming DRR and resilience.
