SIDS PrepCom Releases Info Note, Sets Six Areas for Partnerships

The information note for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) has been released, which provides information on: conference venue; programme; and participation and registration.

SIDS Conference logo21 March 2014: The information note for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) has been released, which provides information on: conference venue; programme; and participation and registration.

According to the note, the conference will include plenary meetings, six multistakeholder partnerships dialogues, side events, parallel events, exhibitions, and pre-conference activities beginning on 28 August, such as a Private Sector Forum and NGO and Youth Forums.

In addition, the Conference Preparatory Committee adopted a draft decision A/CONF.223/PC/L.1 on ‘Arrangements for accreditation and participation of relevant non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other major groups in the preparatory process and in the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States’ during a special meeting on 21 March 2014.

The special meeting also resulted in agreement on six areas for developing and strengthening partnerships. The six areas are: climate change and disaster risk management; oceans and seas biodiversity; water and sanitation, food security and waste management; sustainable economic development; sustainable energy; and social development, and health and non-communicable diseases, youth and women.
