10yof12 September 2014: A note by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon proposes a duration of terms for the members of the board of the Ten-Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (SCP). The board will meet on 15-16 October 2014, in Santiago, Chile, for the third time since its establishment in September 2013.

The Secretary-General’s note (A/69/379) recommends that members of the board serve for two years, with a 16 September start date every second year. Board members are nominated by the regional groups, pursuant to UN General Assembly Resolution 67/203, and the note proposes that members are allowed to be renominated for a second consecutive term. No Member State should be allowed to serve for more than two consecutive terms, it suggests.

The current members of the 10YFP board are: South Africa; Tanzania; Indonesia, sharing a seat with Bangladesh; Republic of Korea, sharing a seat with Japan; Romania; Russian Federation; Chile; Mexico; Switzerland; and Finland, sharing a seat with Germany. When two countries share a seat, each member serves for one year.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the Secretariat of 10YFP.

Registration is also now open for the SCP Clearinghouse, the online hub of the 10YFP for knowledge-sharing and cooperation between multi-sectoral actors.
