12 September 2014: A note by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon proposes a duration of terms for the members of the board of the Ten-Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (SCP). The board will meet on 15-16 October 2014, in Santiago, Chile, for the third time since its establishment in September 2013.

The Secretary-General’s note (A/69/379) recommends that members of the board serve for two years, with a 16 September start date every second year. Board members are nominated by the regional groups, pursuant to UN General Assembly Resolution 67/203, and the note proposes that members are allowed to be renominated for a second consecutive term. No Member State should be allowed to serve for more than two consecutive terms, it suggests.

The current members of the 10YFP board are: South Africa; Tanzania; Indonesia, sharing a seat with Bangladesh; Republic of Korea, sharing a seat with Japan; Romania; Russian Federation; Chile; Mexico; Switzerland; and Finland, sharing a seat with Germany. When two countries share a seat, each member serves for one year.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the Secretariat of 10YFP.
