SE4All Hub Showcases Industrial Energy Efficiency Best Practices
story highlights

The Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency (C2E2) has released a publication titled 'Best Practices and Case Studies for Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement: An Introduction for Policy Makers.' The report was published in the context of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, which includes a goal of doubling the global rate of energy efficiency improvement by 2030.

C2E2, as the SE4All Energy Efficiency Hub, hopes the publication will "stimulate joint actions from business, governments, and civil societies" toward this goal.

se4all-ccef11 February 2016: The Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency (C2E2) has released a publication titled ‘Best Practices and Case Studies for Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement: An Introduction for Policy Makers.’ The report was published in the context of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, which includes a goal of doubling the global rate of energy efficiency improvement by 2030. C2E2, as the SE4All Energy Efficiency Hub, hopes the publication will “stimulate joint actions from business, governments, and civil societies” toward this goal.

Emphasizing that industrial energy efficiency can cut costs, reduce environmental pollution and improve productivity, the report seeks to help policymakers address the barriers preventing the adoption of energy efficiency measures and the realization of the associated benefits. Among the cited barriers are a lack of data, energy subsidies, certain utility incentives, and investment-related barriers.

The report provides an overview of policy options, going into detail on establishing: information-led and capacity building policies; institutional, regulatory and legal policies; fiscal and financial policies; and policies that drive technological innovation. The text is dotted with successful examples from countries around the world, with a view to sharing international experiences that can inform countries’ own efforts at accelerating energy efficiency improvements.

C2E2, which is “dedicated to accelerating the uptake of energy efficiency policy and programmes at a global scale,” was established as the SE4All Energy Efficiency Hub to support action toward the SE4All energy efficiency goal. SE4All’s other two goals are to double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix and ensure universal access to modern energy services, both by 2030. Taken together, the three goals align closely with the targets of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 (Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all), which was adopted as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in September 2015 by the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

C2E2 is part of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) – Technical University of Denmark (DTU) Partnership and was established in September 2013 by the Danish Government, UNEP and DTU.
