unsdsn16 January 2015: The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) opened its second global consultation on its report, ‘Indicators and a Monitoring Framework for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).’ During the consultation period, 16-31 January 2015, the public is invited to comment on a proposed indicator framework for the SDGs proposed by the UN General Assembly’s (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG) on SDGs in 2014. The draft report also outlines major gaps in indicators that would need to be filled before implementing the post-2015 development agenda.

A first draft of the report was released for comment in February 2014. The comments received were incorporated into a revised working draft of May 2014. The subsequent draft of the report, released in July 2014, aligned the indicator framework proposed by the SDSN with the SDGs proposed by the OWG. A further version of the report, including more details on annual reporting, levels of reporting, and incorporating comments received on specific indicators, was published in November 2014.

The January 2015 version has been revised to reflect: the recommendations set out by the UN Secretary-General in his synthesis report; recommendations of the Friends of the Chair on Broader Measures of Progress, in their report to the Secretary General; and the conclusions of the UN Independent Expert Advisory Group on a Data Revolution for Sustainable Development (IEAG).

The next version of the framework, to be issued after the consultation period, will serve as input into the UN Statistics Division’s Expert Group Meeting on the indicator framework for the post-2015 development agenda (25-26 February 2015).
