unsdsn8 April 2015: The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has released an updated version of its working paper, titled ‘Financing Sustainable Development: Implementing the SDGs through Effective Investment Strategies and Partnerships.’ The report and supporting background document consolidate publicly available estimates to arrive at a preliminary assessment of financing needs for the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and provides a road map for preparatory discussions ahead of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD 3).

The first version of the report was published on 30 November 2014, and underwent a public consultation from December 2014 to January 2015. The updated version incorporates comments and suggestions from the public consultation, and builds on reports from the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing (ICESDF), the World Bank, and others.

The report focuses on public-private partnerships (PPPs), infrastructure finance, and official development assistance (ODA), among other issues, and highlights key investment priorities in global public goods including climate change mitigation and adaptation, health (infectious diseases), ecosystem services and biodiversity, and technology development and diffusion.

The report provides an analysis of how successful PPPs have worked in health, and how lessons might be applied to other areas, such as education, agriculture, water and sanitation, or a data revolution for the SDGs.

FfD 3 conference will take place on 13-16 July 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. [Publication: Financing Sustainable Development: Implementing the SDGs through Effective Investment Strategies and Partnerships] [IISD RS Story on Previous Draft]
