SAICM Releases Draft Proposal for Action on Highly Hazardous Pesticides

The Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) has released a draft proposal for action to address highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs), for the consideration of SAICM stakeholders.

The proposal was developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Health Organization (WHO), in response to a request by the second meeting of the SAICM Open-ended Working Group (OEWG 2) to develop a proposal on HHPs, for consideration at the fourth International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM 4).

SAICM17 April 2015: The Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) has released a draft proposal for action to address highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs), for the consideration of SAICM stakeholders. The proposal was developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Health Organization (WHO), in response to a request by the second meeting of the SAICM Open-ended Working Group (OEWG 2) to develop a proposal on HHPs, for consideration at the fourth International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM 4).

The proposed plan builds on existing activities, tools, mechanisms and frameworks that contribute to the attainment of the SAICM 2020 goals. It also defines roles and actions for all SAICM stakeholders, and identifies actions requiring new resources.

The SAICM Secretariat will accept comments until 18 May, submitted to saicm.chemicals@unep.org.
