SAICM Invites Comments on Proposals for GPA Activities

The African Group is proposing the inclusion of hazardous substances within the life cycle of electrical and electronic products.

May 2011: The Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) is inviting comments from stakeholders on proposals from the Swiss Government and the African Group respectively, to include new activities in the Global Plan of Action of the Strategic Approach.

The activities proposed by the Swiss relate to the environmentally sound management of nanotechnologies and manufactured nanomaterials. The African Group is proposing the inclusion of hazardous substances within the life cycle of electrical and electronic products.

Stakeholders are invited to provide comments on both proposals to the SAICM Secretariat by 30 May 2011. Both issues will be considered at the Intersessional Ad Hoc Open-Ended Working Group of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM OEWG) scheduled to convene in Belgrade, Serbia, from 29 August-2 September.
