Rotterdam Convention Calls for Information on Hazardous Pesticide Formulation

The Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade is calling for information on a hazardous pesticide formulation containing fenthion.

Due to human health concerns, Chad proposed that the Rotterdam Convention Chemical Review Committee consider Fenthion 640 ULV for inclusion in Annex III (chemicals subject to the PIC Procedure) of the Convention, at its meeting in October 2013.

Due to human health concerns, Chad proposed that the Rotterdam Convention Chemical Review Committee consider Fenthion 640 ULV for inclusion in Annex III (chemicals subject to the PIC Procedure) of the Convention, at its meeting in October 2013.

In accordance with paragraph 3 of Article 6 of the Convention, the Secretariat is now seeking additional information on the chemical, including: the physico-chemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties of its formulation; handling or applicator restrictions in countries; information on incidents related to its formulation; risk or hazard evaluations; and alternative pest control practices.
