Rio Conventions Focus on Enhancing Collaboration

The meeting of the Joint Liaison Group of the Rio Conventions provided an opportunity for the Heads of the Secretariats of the CBD, the UNFCCC and the UNCCD to discuss emerging issues related to cooperation and enhanced collaboration.

23 September 2010: The tenth meeting of the Joint Liaison Group of the Rio Conventions convened on 23 September 2010, on the margins of the UN General Assembly high-level meeting on biodiversity, in New York, US.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Heads of the Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UNFCCC and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to discuss emerging issues related to cooperation and enhanced collaboration in the context of the preparation of their respective conferences of the parties (COPs). During the meeting, the Executive Secretaries discussed ways to support parties’ efforts towards synergies, especially with regard to national planning processes.
