24 January 2011: The report of the 29th meeting of the Small-Scale (SSC) Working Group of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which took place from 11-14 January 2011, in Bonn, Germany, is now available.

At the meeting, the SSC Working Group considered three submissions regarding the creation of new methodologies, and agreed to recommend a new methodology titled “Switch from fossil fuel to biomass in existing manufacturing facilities for non-energy applications.” It agreed to seek further inputs and clarifications on the other two proposed methodologies. Regarding the development of new methodologies and tools, the Working Group agreed to recommend a new methodology titled “biomass use for thermal applications for the households/small users,” which was developed top-down by the group taking into account inputs from experts, the project proponents and other stakeholders. It also continued to work on cookstove methodologies “Switch from Non-Renewable Biomass for Thermal Applications by the User” and “Energy Efficiency Measures in Thermal Applications of Non-Renewable Biomass,” and commenced work on the top-down development of a new methodology for solar cooker applications, clarifying issues related to baseline determination and monitoring.

The SSC Working Group also considered submissions requesting revisions and clarifications to approved SSC methodologies. It also recommended a revision of the “General Guidelines to SSC CDM methodologies” to clarify the definition of Installed/Rated capacity of Renewable Energy projects. The proposed revision further clarifies that the latest versions of the norms, specifications and standards and guidelines that are available at the time of commencing the validation shall be applied by the project proponents.
