25 March 2011: The report of the 30th meeting of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Small-Scale Working Group, which was held from 15-18 March 2011 in Bonn, Germany, is now available on the CDM website. The Small-Scale Working Group considers matters relating to small-scale CDM project activities.

At the meeting, the Working Group considered requests for the creation of new small-scale methodologies, development of new small-scale methodologies and tools, and requests for revisions of, and clarifications to, approved small-scale methodologies and tools. Regarding the development of new methodologies, the Working Group, inter alia, agreed to recommend a new methodology for solar water heating, which would be applicable to project activities involving the installation of solar water heating systems in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional facilities.

The Working Group agreed to recommend a new methodology titled “Demand-side activities for outdoor and street efficient lighting technologies,” applicable to project activities that lead to efficient use of electricity through the adoption of energy efficient lamps and/or fixture combinations to replace less efficient lamps and/or fixture combinations in public- or utility-owned street lighting systems. It also agreed to recommend a new methodology titled “Low greenhouse gas emitting water purification systems,” applicable to project activities involving introduction of water purification systems for residential sector and institutional systems such as purification technologies installed at a school or a community centre.

In addition, the Working Group considered a request by the CDM Executive Board regarding the revision of the “Guidelines for demonstrating additionality of microscale project activities.” It agreed to recommend a revision to these guidelines, including a recommendation that the guidelines be applicable to demonstrate additionality at the level of a CDM Programme Activity (CPA) of a CDM Programme of Activities (PoA), but not applicable to demonstrate additionality at the level of a PoA.
