Registration Opens for First Session of IPBES Plenary
story highlights

The first plenary session of IPBES, scheduled for 3-7 October 2011, is expected to start the process towards operationalization of the science-policy platform.

Registration is open until 31 August 2011.

29 July 2011: Registration is now open for the inaugural plenary session of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). IPBES is intended to provide an interface between the scientific community and policy makers to build capacity for and strengthen the use of science in policy making. Its first session is scheduled from 3-7 October 2011, in Nairobi, Kenya. The deadline for registration is 31 August 2011.

Two sessions of the plenary meeting are considered necessary for the operationalization of IPBES. At the first one, government representatives are expected to consider the draft principles and procedures governing the work of IPBES, its governance structure, processes for nomination and selection of host institution(s) and host country for the platform, and initial elements of the work programme. It is hoped that the second session then will be able to determine these modalities and institutional arrangements and consider the detailed draft work programme of IPBES.

The second session is tentatively scheduled for March or April 2012. [IPBES Website] [Registration] [Meeting Documents]
