Ramsar STRP Newsletter Highlights Ecosystem Monitoring, Stakeholder Engagement

The STRP newsletter features articles on: the establishment of a wetland ecosystem research monitoring network in China; a new CGIAR initiative on water, land and ecosystems; a new joint work programme that strengthens the partnership between Ramsar and CMS; work by CBD and Ramsar on the role of biodiversity in the global water cycle; and Fiji's national wetland steering committee.

6 December 2012: The Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP) of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention) has released the November 2012 issue of its Newsletter.

The newsletter features articles on: Ramsar and species conservation; the establishment of a wetland ecosystem research monitoring network in China; a new initiative of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) on water, land and ecosystems; a new joint work programme that strengthens the partnership between Ramsar and the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS); the work carried out by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Ramsar on the role of biodiversity in the global water cycle; Fiji’s national wetland steering committee and stakeholder engagement; and the Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) for water and wetlands report, to be launched on World Wetlands Day 2013.

The newsletter also highlights the appointment of new STRP members, and the release of the fifth Ramsar Briefing Note, titled “Evaluating the risk to Ramsar Sites from climate change induced sea level rise.” [Publication: STRP Newsletter, Issue 2/2012]
