7 May 2018: In preparation for the July 2018 in-depth review of SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), UN-Water has produced a report titled, ‘SDG 6 Synthesis Report 2018 on Water and Sanitation,’ and has called for public input on the findings. The report builds on baseline data on the SDG 6 global indicators from several research projects and represents a joint position from UN-Water Members and partners on the global status on SDG 6.
The report builds on research under three projects. GEMI is an inter-agency initiative composed of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the UN Environment Programme (UN Environment), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), UNICEF, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) is coordinated by WHO and UNICEF. The Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS) is a UN-Water initiative implemented by WHO.
Feedback has been invited on the report during a Public Dialogue between May and September. The dialogue will seek input according to the following guidelines: overall feedback (2-16 May); main messages for the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (25 June to 9 July); and looking forward and next steps (31 August to 14 September).
The dialogue began with a briefing for UN Member States, on 2 May. UN-Water decided to undertake this dialogue during the 28th UN-Water meeting, in February 2018. [SDG 6 Synthesis Report] [Public Dialogue portal][UN-Water news on public dialogue][IISD report on 28th UN-Water meeting]
