PROVIANovember 2013: The Global Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA) has released Guidance for assessing climate change vulnerability, impacts and adaptation, covering varied approaches, methods and tools available.

The PROVIA Guidance was launched during the Warsaw Climate Change Conference. It seeks to update and improve existing guidance for assessing climate change vulnerability, impacts and adaptation, covering the range of available approaches, methods and tools, and is structured around the adaptation learning cycle.

The Guidance was prepared by ten experts and was subject to extensive review during 2012 and 2013. The Guidance, which will be an information source for countries, is aimed at providing tools for decision-making to researchers, adaptation practitioners, decision-makers and those involved in policy formulation. It comprises information on the following elements: framing the questions and approaches; approaches, methods and tools in vulnerability, impact and adaptation assessment; and the adaptation process.
