Policy Briefing Discusses Roadmap for Dominican Republic’s Climate Change Learning Strategy

The workshop was organized within the framework of the UN CC:Learn Project on “Strengthening Human Resources and Skills to Address Climate Change.”

UN CC:Learn2 May 2012: The Dominican Republic’s National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL) held a policy briefing to agree on the process for preparing and launching a national strategy to strengthen human resources and skills to advance green, low-emission and climate-resilient development. The strategy process is scheduled to be launched in July 2012.

The policy briefing, which was held on 2 May 2012, in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, provided an opportunity to present and review the outcomes of the workshop on “Developing Results-based Action to Strengthen Human Resources, Learning and Skills to Advance Green, Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development,” which was held from 24-25 April 2012. This workshop was organized within the framework of the UN CC:Learn Project on “Strengthening Human Resources and Skills to Address Climate Change.”

Issues discussed during the briefing include: establishment of a consultation process to review a draft of the national strategy in June; preparation of a declaration on strengthening human resource capacities to advance green, low emission and climate resilient development, for endorsement at the strategy launch event; exploring of modalities and partnerships for implementing the proposed action with development partners; preparation of a pilot action plan to strengthen institutional capacities to deliver climate change learning; and the review and monitoring of the implementation of the strategy.

The One UN Training Service Platform on Climate Change (UN CC:Learn) is a collaborative initiative involving 32 UN agencies that supports Member States, UN agencies and other development partners in designing and implementing country-driven, results-oriented and sustainable learning to address climate change.
