Photo Contest Considers ‘Soils through Youth’s Eyes’

In celebration of the International Year of Soils 2015, the Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD) are hosting a photo contest to engage young people in discussions regarding the significance of soils.

Submitted photos are expected to help demonstrate the importance of soils in the work of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), from a youth perspective.

Global Soil Partnership (GSP)November 2014: In celebration of the International Year of Soils 2015, the Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD) are hosting a photo contest to engage young people in discussions regarding the significance of soils. Submitted photos are expected to help demonstrate the importance of soils in the work of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), from a youth perspective.

The contest focuses on the theme ‘Soils through Youth’s Eyes.’ Submissions must convey the potential, contribution and importance of healthy soils in the food system and may be made until 14 December 2014. Twelve winning photos will be selected to create a 2015 calendar. The winning photos will also be published on the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership website.

The 68th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2015 as the International Year of Soils to raise awareness about the fundamental role of soils for human’s life and to achieve recognition of the contributions of soil to food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation, ecosystem services, poverty alleviation and sustainable development, among other aims.
