PFII Collects Input on WCIP Follow-up

The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) launched a questionnaire for Indigenous People's on the follow up to the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples.

The questionnaire invites indigenous peoples to provide their input on the development of the System-Wide Action Plan to ensure a coherent approach of the UN system to achieve the ends of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the preparation of the Secretary-General report.

The deadline for response is 6 April 2015.

Unpfii10 March 2015: The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PFII) launched a questionnaire to collect indigenous peoples’ input on the follow-up to the 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples (WCIP), in particular the development of the System-Wide Action Plan to ensure a coherent approach of the UN system to achieve the ends of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the preparation of the report of the UN Secretary-General requested in the WCIP outcome document. The deadline for responses is 6 April 2015.

The questionnaire asks respondents to, inter alia: identify actions taken by governments and indigenous people to implement the WCIP Outcome Document; highlight challenges in achieving the ends of the Declaration; provide concrete proposals as to how indigenous peoples’ participation at the UN could be strengthened; give examples of good practices from within the UN system regarding indigenous peoples’ participation that should be promoted and replicated; and identify ways the UN can better recognize the specific status of indigenous peoples.

The PFII is an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with a mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.
