4 July 2017: The inaugural Climate Action Pacific Partnership (CAPP) event aimed to support and strengthen the participation of Pacific Island countries in the global climate action agenda. Forming part of a programme of activities of the High Level Champions appointed under the Paris Agreement, the meeting promoted initiatives to increase ambition, transparency and alignment with the objective of the Convention, the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The CAPP inaugural event convened from 3-4 July 2017, in Suva, Fiji. Participants engaged in discussions on, inter alia: actions to enhance implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and adaptation plans in the Pacific; initiatives to increase availability of and access to climate finance; improved insurance and other risk management and impact response options; and the promotion of partnerships, particularly between State and non-state actors.

The meeting resulted in a ‘communiqué to accelerate climate action in the Pacific’ that identifies priorities for the region, as well as technological, financing and insurance initiatives.
