30 January 2019: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has set up an online portal that focuses on UNDP-supported, Green Climate Fund (GCF)-financed projects and programmes. The portal contributes to efforts under the enhanced transparency framework established under the Paris Agreement on climate change by providing information on support provided and received.
The UNDP Project Portal seeks to facilitate increased transparency of UNDP-supported efforts to facilitate access to GCF climate finance for mitigation and adaptation. It focuses on projects that are under development or already approved, and details the documentation and processes followed in facilitating access to climate finance, as well as timelines.
The portal enables users to search for projects based on status, size and coverage (country, regional or global), as well as by specific region and country. The projects must achieve results in one or more of the mitigation or adaptation results areas that are listed on the portal. For mitigation, the results areas are: energy access and power generation; low-emission transport; buildings, cities, industries and appliances; and forestry and land use. For adaptation, the results areas are: most vulnerable people and communities; health, well-being, food and water security; infrastructure and built environment; and ecosystems and ecosystem services. Thus far, 19 projects have been approved with combined financing of over USD 604 million.
Some of the approved projects include:
- ‘Improving the Resilience of Vulnerable Coastal Communities to Climate Change Related Impacts in Viet Nam’;
- ‘Supporting Vulnerable Communities in Maldives to Manage Climate Change-Induced Water Shortages’;
- ‘Accelerating the Transformational Shift to a Low-carbon Economy in Mauritius’;
- ‘Building Resilient Communities, Wetland Ecosystems and Associated Catchments in Uganda’;
- ‘De-Risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits in Bosnia and Herzegovina’;
- ‘Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities’; and
- ‘Scaling up Climate Resilient Water Management Practices for Vulnerable Communities in La Mojana in Colombia.’
