OECD_NEW10 July 2015: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is welcoming comments on its detailed ‘Inventory of Water Governance Indicators and Measurement Frameworks.’

The Inventory is the first step in a three-year project to develop Water Governance Indicators, with the broader aim of providing a framework to evaluate the effectiveness of water-related institutions and governance arrangements, and identifying and scaling up best practices.

The Inventory maps over 60 sets of indicators, databases, guidelines, maps and assessment tools related to measuring water governance. For each indicator, the Inventory lists the author, year, source, a description, variables and the geographical scope.

OECD invites suggestions on the Inventory by 8 September 2015, including on databases that should be added to the Inventory. The Inventory is designed to be updated on a regular basis.

In June, the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting adopted the 12 ‘OECD Principles on Water Governance,’ which aim to contribute to the effectiveness, efficiency, trust of and engagement on water governance. The Principles are a result of a thematic group on ‘Good Governance’ formed at the Sixth World Water Forum in 2012, which then developed into the OECD Water Governance Initiative (WGI) in 2013.
