August 2018: The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has launched a website that focuses on climate change impacts and adaptation for coastal transport infrastructure in the Caribbean.

The website, ‘SIDSport-ClimateAdapt,’ showcases activities, findings and outputs of the UNCTAD project, ‘Climate Change Impacts on Coastal Transport Infrastructure in the Caribbean: Enhancing the Adaptive Capacity of SIDS.’ The project aims to strengthen the capacity of policymakers, transport planners and transport infrastructure managers in small island developing States (SIDS) to: increase understanding of climate change impacts on coastal transport infrastructure, particularly seaports and airports; and undertake appropriate adaptation response measures.

The project’s outputs include case studies on seaports and airports in Jamaica and Saint Lucia, as well as a replicable methodology for assessing climate-related impacts and adaptation options for coastal transport infrastructure in SIDS. The project was implemented by UNCTAD in collaboration with, among others, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), UN Environment Programme (UNEP, or UN Environment) and Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC).

The website will facilitate information sharing, communication and dialogue among relevant stakeholders and interested parties through an online forum, which requires registration but is freely accessible to anyone. [SIDSport-ClimateAdapt Website] [Related Work by UNCTAD]
