NEPAD, UNDP Strengthen Cooperation

The NEPAD Agency and the UNDP Africa Bureau have signed an MOU focusing on key areas including environment and climate change; South- South cooperation; and capacity development.

The two parties stated that the collaboration between the two organizations can provide high-quality policy advice for decision makers on the continent.

11 October 2011: The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Planning and Coordinating Agency (NEPAD Agency) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Africa Bureau on key areas of cooperation including: development policy and strategy; capacity development; South-South cooperation and aid effectiveness; environment and climate change; and gender equity and empowerment of women.

The partnership, which has been strengthened by the MOU, aims to be strategic in its efforts. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, NEPAD CEO, noted that the collaboration between the two organizations can provide important opportunities to “make a difference.” Tegegnework Gettu, UNDP Regional Director for Africa, highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing and information exchange, emphasizing that the collaboration can provide quality policy advice for decision-makers on the continent.
