UNFCCC9 June 2013: The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), with the support of the UNFCCC Secretariat and in collaboration with relevant organizations, organized the NAP Expo to catalyze the launch of the national adaptation plan (NAP) process at the national level in least developed countries (LDCs). The event promoted a common understanding of the NAP process by going through the NAP technical guidelines.

A number of LDCs are already addressing various aspects of the NAP process, utilizing the technical guidelines produced by the LEG. They are setting up the relevant institutional arrangements and mandates for the NAP process at the national level, and are inspiring others to kick-off their NAP processes. The LDCs stresseed that although financial support is still insufficient, a range of support initiatives exist, or are being launched, to support the LDCs in the NAP process.

The NAP Expo was held on 9 June 2013, in Bonn, Germany, and presented an opportunity for the LDCs to communicate their plans for the formulation of NAPs. The Expo also provided: a platform for parties, agencies and organizations to share information on their support to the LDCs in this regard; and a forum for the exchange of experience and best practices on planning, prioritizing and implementation of adaptation.

The event was attended by over 150 representatives from LDCs and other parties, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its agencies, adaptation practitioners, organizations, development agencies, regional centres and networks, as well as individual experts. [NAP Expo Webpage] [IISD RS Sources]
