Partnership on Mitigation and MRV18 December 2013: The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV, in cooperation with the Tunisian Energy Agency (ANME) and Tunisian Ministry for Environment, held a regional workshop on monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs).

The workshop, held in Tunis, Tunisia, from 17-18 December 2013, convened 63 experts, practitioners, and policy makers from 17 countries, including ten African francophone countries, to exchange their knowledge and experiences on challenges, implementation, methodologies and best practices.

The objectives of the workshop were to, inter alia: understand the benefits of transparency; contemplate options for institutions and procedures for reporting systems; and identify opportunities to mobilize private sector investments. The workshop also took steps to establish a network of French-speaking and other experts and policy makers on MRV to foster further communication and collaboration. Participants from Francophone countries identified priority areas for the network, such as enhancement of national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. The network is scheduled to begin its activities in early 2014.

The Germany Ministry for the Environment and the Belgium Federal Public Service for Health and Environment provided support for the workshop. The Partnership, launched within the framework of the Petersberg Climate Dialogue by South Africa, the Republic of Korea and Germany in May 2010, supports a practical exchange on mitigation-related activities and MRV between developing and developed countries.
