Ministerial Forum Calls for Health to Feature in Post-2015 Agenda

The Ministerial Forum of China-Africa Health Development, in adopting the Beijing Declaration of the Ministerial Forum of China-Africa Health Development, has called for health and health-related issues to be featured prominently in the post-2015 development agenda.

ministerial-forum-of-china16 August 2013: The Ministerial Forum of China-Africa Health Development, in adopting the Beijing Declaration of the Ministerial Forum of China-Africa Health Development, has called for health and health-related issues to be featured prominently in the post-2015 development agenda.

Convened under the theme ‘Priorities of China-Africa Health Cooperation in the New Era,’ the Forum also expressed its continued support for achieving the Millennium Development Goals’ (MDGs) health-related targets. Other commitments of the Forum include: supporting national health policies in Africa as well as programmes and research for universal health; preventing and controlling communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs); supporting health infrastructure development; and promoting cooperation in standard setting.

The Ministerial Forum recognizes health as a central element of China-Africa cooperation, and its importance in developing China-Africa relations. It took place on 16 August 2013, in Beijing, China, with participation by representatives from the African Union (AU), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank and the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
