minamata8 July 2014: The Interim Secretariat of the Minamata Convention on Mercury has launched a survey on the performance of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Global Mercury Partnership since its last review in 2012, to determine which areas of the Partnership require improvement.

The results will be used to inform the Partnership’s future direction, and will provide a basis for discussion at the next Partnership Advisory Group (PAG) meeting.

The Minamata Convention on Mercury is a global treaty, opened for signature in late 2013, to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of mercury, including through a ban on new mercury mines, the phase-out of existing ones, control measures on air emissions, and international regulation of the informal sector for artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
