Many Strong Voices (MSV), a collaboration between coastal communities in the Arctic and small island developing States (SIDS) that seeks to promote action on climate change, highlights two historic initatives: the Small States Conference on Sea Level Rise, which convened from14-18 November 1989, in Male, the Maldives; and the UNESCO/UNFPA Population and Environment Project in the Eastern Islands of Fiji.
August 2012: Many Strong Voices (MSV), a collaboration between coastal communities in the Arctic and small island developing States (SIDS) that seeks to promote action on climate change, is working to ensure that information on historical documents relevant to climate change adaptation is available. As part of this effort, MSV highlighted two historical environment and climate change initiatives.
The first is the Small States Conference on Sea Level Rise, which convened from 14-18 November 1989, in Male, Maldives. The second is the Population and Environment Project in the Eastern Islands of Fiji, which was carried out by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) as a pilot project of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB), and which was implemented from 1974-1976.
