Development of the Maldives' Strategic National Action Plan (SNAP), which integrates disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation, was supported by UN/ISDR and is guided by both the Hyogo Framework of Action and the objectives of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
24 June 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has announced that the Government of the Maldives has endorsed its Strategic National Action Plan (SNAP), which integrates disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. According to UN/ISDR, the Maldives’ SNAP represents a world first in integrated approaches to DRR and climate change adaptation.
Development of the Maldives’ SNAP was supported by UN/ISDR, and is guided by both the Hyogo Framework of Action and the objectives of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
According to UN/ISDR, the Maldives’ SNAP builds on lessons learned from past disasters and promotes good governance, empowerment of local communities, building resilience, and risk sensitive regional and local development.
