Major Groups Establish Liaison Organization to UNFF

In order to coordinate Major Groups input to the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) an international organization, Major Groups Partnership on Forests (MGPoF), has been established and is now open for member registration.

Unff5 November 2014: In order to coordinate Major Groups’ input to the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), an international organization, titled Major Groups Partnership on Forests (MGPoF), has been established and is now open for member registration.

The organization is intended to support the participation of all Major Groups identified under the UNFF, namely: children and youth; women; indigenous peoples; business and industry; farmers and small forest landowners; forest workers and trade unions; local authorities; non-governmental organizations; and members of the scientific and technological communities.

The MGPoF aims to build collaboration among and between groups and facilitate knowledge generation and information sharing including through the organization of workshops and support for forest research. The MGPoF will also provide input to UNFF processes, and serve as liaison between Major Group Focal Points and the UNFF Secretariat and Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF).

The organization was established in response to the Major Groups-led Initiatives (MGIs), which were convened to develop recommendations for the ninth and tenth meeting of the UNFF. [MGPoF Announcement] [MGPoF Website]
