Long-term Finance Experts Hold Wrap-Up Event

The Work Programme on Long Term Finance Wrap-Up Event, organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, brought together approximately 100 participants representing, inter alia, developed and developing countries, multilateral development banks (MDBs), the private sector and civil society.

wpwe12 September 2013: The Work Programme on Long Term Finance Wrap-Up Event, organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, brought together approximately 100 participants representing, inter alia, developed and developing countries, multilateral development banks (MDBs), the private sector and civil society.

The event took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Incheon, Republic of Korea, from 10-12 September 2013. It consisted of three thematic sessions: pathways for mobilizing scaled-up climate finance; enabling environments and policy frameworks for effective deployment of climate finance; and enabling environments and policy frameworks for mobilizing scaled-up finance. Representatives convened in plenary sessions involving presenters and discussants, followed by informal parallel breakout sessions.

Acknowledging progress made, many representatives drew attention to further work required on issues including: climate finance definitions; predictability of financing; and the role of the private sector.

A Co-Chairs’ report identifying technical and political issues and outlining recommendations will be prepared. The report will be transmitted to the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19), for its consideration. [UNFCCC Press Release] [IISD RS Coverage]
