The Second Workshop of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Platform on Low Emission Development Strategies (LAC LEDS) of the Global Alliance on Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS Global Partnership) convened jointly with the annual InterClima meeting for climate change management in Peru.
9 December 2013: The Second Workshop of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Platform on Low Emission Development Strategies (LAC LEDS) of the Global Alliance on Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS Global Partnership) convened jointly with the annual InterClima meeting for climate change management in Peru.
The objective of the LAC LEDS event, which took place from 4-6 December 2013, in Lima, Peru, was to promote low-carbon climate-resilient development through the exchange of experiences between experts from within and outside the LAC region. The event focused on: planning and stakeholder engagement processes; policies and good practices; analysis of the co-benefits achieved through emission reductions; and low-emission development funding.
Over 200 participants from 25 countries attended the workshop. The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV supported the initiative and hosted a “deep dive capacity-building session” where key elements and challenges for national monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems were discussed, using examples from Chile, Mexico, Peru and the UK.
The LAC LEDS workshop is a forum for representatives from Latin American governments and international organizations, as well as for technical experts and other stakeholders in the region, to share experiences and best practices, participate in training, establish collaborative links and work, and discuss innovative ways to achieve low-carbon, climate-resilient development.
The LEDS Global Partnership – a partnership of over 100 countries and international programmes – enhances coordination, information exchange and cooperation to advance climate-resilient low emission growth. InterClima is an annual multistakeholder forum hosted by Peru’s Environment Ministry that seeks to provide Peruvian stakeholders with training, discussion, information exchange and opportunities to forge partnerships regarding climate change, low-carbon development and climate resilience.
