30 May 2012: At its 29th meeting, the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee (JISC) focused on recommendations for revising the Joint Implementation (JI) guidelines.

During the meeting, which was held from 28-30 May 2012 in Bonn, Germany, the JISC considered: accreditation of independent entities; matters relating to determination and verification reports; JI management plan and resources for the work on JI; relations with stakeholders, and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs); and matters and strategy related to its media engagement, communication and outreach.

In addition, the JISC considered various matters relating to guidance received from the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP), including matters relating to the review of the JI guidelines and the operation of JI projects during the transition from the first to the second Kyoto Protocol commitment period. Regarding the review of the JI guidelines, the JISC requested the Secretariat and some JISC members to provide a draft of the revised JI guidelines.

Regarding the operation of JI projects, the JISC noted that wider issues of this transition are currently being considered by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and requested the Secretariat to present information on these wider issues at its 30th meeting. It further requested the Secretariat to identify areas requiring further regulatory documents from the JISC to clarify the operation of JI projects during this transition period, and to prepare draft regulatory documents for consideration by the JISC at its 30th meeting.
