23 March 2012: The Joint Implementation (JI) Supervisory Committee (JISC) has concluded its 28th meeting with the adoption of a two-year business plan and detailed management plan designed to guide the mechanism to a healthy future.

The meeting, which was held from 22-23 March 2012, in Bonn, Germany, focused on issues relating to the operation of JI, and considered, inter alia: the accreditation of independent entities; matters relating to determination and verification reports; the JI management plan and resources for the work on JI; and relations with stakeholders, and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The Committee also elected Wolfgang Seidel and Carola Borja as the JISC Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, until the first meeting of the JISC in 2013.

In addition, based on the mandate from the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 7) in December 2011, the JISC agreed on a work plan to revise the JI guidelines, which is the key document of rules and procedures for JI. The Committee commenced discussions on the key attributes and transitional measures relating to possible changes in the guidelines, which will be presented to COP/MOP 8 as part of its first review of the JI guidelines. It also agreed to provide a draft revision of the JI guidelines to the COP/MOP as an illustration, and requested the UNFCCC Secretariat, in collaboration with a group of members, to prepare draft materials for consideration by the JISC at its 29th and 30th meetings.
