12 October 2012: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has launched “An Explanatory Guide to the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-Sharing.”

The guide aims to facilitate understanding of the text of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of the Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), as well as the legal obligations that arise for its Parties.

The Guide also provides practical guidance for ABS implementation at the national level. Translations of the Guide into Spanish and French will be available in the first quarter of 2013, IUCN notes.
