iucn_wbcsd7 December 2015: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) announced a five-year partnership focused on helping businesses address climate change and ecosystem degradation through the valuation of nature.

The agreement seeks to integrate the consideration of ecosystems into core business strategy and provide for consideration of natural infrastructure as an alternative or a complement to “grey” infrastructure. The collaboration will also promote the use of the Natural Capital Protocol to inform business decision-making and contribute to the implementation of the WBCSD-led Action 2020 Agenda and IUCN’s Global Programme, which supports implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

The announcement, made at the WBCSD Council Meeting, held the 7-10 December in Paris, France, comes a decade after IUCN and WBCSD signed their first memorandum of understanding. [IUCN Press Release] [WBCSD Website]
