ITU Climate Change 18 December 2008: The Dynamic Coalition on Internet and Climate Change (DCICC) held its first meeting on 4 December 2008, during the third Internet Governance Forum in Hyderabad, India, which convened from 3-6 December 2008.

At the meeting, the DCICC agreed on a set of objectives and actions for
the coming year, including to advocate the important role that
information and communication technologies can play in reducing
greenhouse gas emissions in all sectors, and the need for the Internet
to grow in an environmentally-friendly manner.
The DCICC was launched by the International Telecommunication Union
(ITU), the Global e-Sustainability Initiative, the Ministry of Internal
Affairs and Communications of Japan, British Telecom and Deutsche
Telecom, with many new entities joining during this first meeting. The
group is committed to moderating the environmental impact of the
Internet, and to seeking new ways to use the Internet to reduce
