Statements have recently been posted from the gathering of forest stakeholders in Washington, DC, US, on 16-17 September 2008, to agree on a new set of principles for sustainable forest management and its central role in combating climate change.

The meeting followed seven months of global dialogue with stakeholders, and was convened under the auspices of the World Bank and The Forests Dialogue, of which the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) is a founding member.
