ITTO-funded Project in Peru Studies Genetic Diversity in Bamboo Forests

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) funded a project titled "Promoting the Rehabilitation, Management and Sustainable Use of Tropical Bamboo Forests in the North-Western Region of Peru," which studied the genetic diversity of bamboo populations in the North-Western Region of Peru.

March 2012: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) supported a study in the North-Western Region of Peru under the project “Promoting the Rehabilitation, Management and Sustainable Use of Tropical Bamboo Forests in the North-Western Region of Peru.”

Under the project, scientists at the Colombian National University and Colombian Bamboo Society used microsatellite markers to study the genetic diversity of the populations of Guadua angustifolia in the region. The project report is only available in Spanish.
