ITTO-CITES Partnership Targets Tropical Timber

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) released a newsletter update on their partnership for the implementation of the listing of tropical tree species.

The newsletter states that 40 new activities were approved under the second phase of the partnership.

Main activities highlighted include pilots for DNA traceability, investments in silviculture, improved trade and market accessibility and transparency, capacity building, and forest conservation and sustainable management. The newsletter also reports on global projects such as the publication of an atlas of tropical timber species and the CITES timber trade study to review listing annotations for tropical tree species.
