The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Republic of Korea Forest Cooperation (AFoCo) in order to strengthen sustainable forest management (SFM) in South-east Asia.
27 June 2013: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – the Republic of Korea Forest Cooperation (AFoCo) in order to strengthen sustainable forest management (SFM) in South-east Asia.
The MOU focuses on forest restoration for the purpose of sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, and the maintenance of ecosystem services such as nutrient and water cycling. The MOU also supports the development of SFM funding mechanisms such as payments for ecosystem services. [ITTO Press Release]
