ITPGR6 March 2015: The Bureau of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) has selected 22 projects to be supported through the third cycle of the ITPGR Benefit-Sharing Fund.

The projects were selected based on the recommendations of an independent panel of experts, and focus on two thematic areas: immediate action – strengthening on-farm conservation and management of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA), primarily at the farm and community levels; and co-development and transfer of technology – enabling the international exchange of information relating to plant genetic material available through the ITPGR Multilateral System.

Major donors of the ITPGR Benefit-Sharing Fund include Italy, the European Union and Norway. The projects will be implemented by research institutions, genebanks, farmers’ organizations and regional and international organizations in Albania, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Fiji, Ghana, Guatemala, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda and Zimbabwe, often in cooperation with other countries.
