The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and research institutions in Singapore are collaborating in a programme aimed at addressing how rice farming can be better adapted to climate change.
The programme will also seek to develop rice varieties resilient to diseases and able to cope with limited water resources.
12 August 2011: The National Research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore will fund a research programme to help Asia meet increasing demands for rice in the context of climate change and a growing regional population.
The programme, an investment of $8.2 million over five years, represents a collaboration between the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and research institutions in Singapore. In addition to addressing how rice farming can be better adapted to climate change, the programme will seek to develop rice varieties resilient to diseases and able to cope with limited water resources. The project represents a contribution to the Global Rice Science Partnership, which is led by IRRI. IRRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
