IPCC Releases Documents Ahead of 33rd Session

The IPCC session will focus on the Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation (SRREN) and consideration of the recommendations related to the InterAcademy Council review of the IPCC.

1 May 2011: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will hold its 33rd session from 10-13 May 2011, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and will be preceded by the 11th session of the IPCC Working Group (WG) III, from 5-8 May.

The IPCC session will focus on the actions of the 11th session of WG III and consideration of the recommendations related to the InterAcademy Council review of the IPCC. In particular, WG III is expected to consider the finalization of the IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation (SRREN). A press conference will be held on 9 May 2011, where the findings of the SRREN will be presented and the Summary for Policymakers will be made available.

During the IPCC’s 33rd session, the IPCC will: examine the programme and budget for 2011-2015; review the IPCC’s procedures, governance and management, conflict of interest policy, and communications strategy; discuss admission of observer organizations, rules of procedure for the election of the IPCC Bureau and Task Force Bureau, and activities of the Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories; and consider progress reports on the IPCC Working Groups, the Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation, the Task Group on Data and Scenario Support for Impact and Climate Analysis, the development of new scenarios, and the IPCC scholarship programme.
