ipbesJuly 2015: The first issue of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) electronic newsletter highlights that invitations to the fourth session of the IPBES Plenary (IPBES-4) have been issued together with a draft agenda.

It also notes strong interest in the IPBES Young Fellows programme, which will allow the participation of 32 fellows as contributing authors to regional assessments and the assessment on land degradation and restoration. The newsletter also points out that the second order draft of the full report and a first order draft of the summary for policymakers (SPM) of the thematic assessment of pollinators, pollination and food production was available for review by governments and experts until 17 July 2015.

Finally, the newsletter reports that five new IPBES assessments have been initiated: four regional assessments (Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Central Asia) on biodiversity and ecosystem services; and the land degradation and restoration assessment from 2015 to 2017. It notes that technical support units and management committees are underway. [IPBES e-news Issue #1: July 2015] [IPBES Website]
