IOMC Releases Review of SAICM Global Plan of Action

The Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC) has released a review of the Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management's (SAICM's) Global Plan of Action (GPA).

The SAICM GPA lists nearly 300 activities to achieve the sound management of chemicals, and the IOMC review focuses on activities in which one or more IOMC organizations are involved.

iomcJune 2014: The Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC) has released a review of the Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management’s (SAICM’s) Global Plan of Action (GPA). The SAICM GPA lists nearly 300 activities to achieve the sound management of chemicals, and the IOMC review focuses on activities in which one or more IOMC organizations are involved.

Members of the IMOC include the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), International Labour Organization (ILO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The IOM identifies actions complete, work underway, and gaps in implementation, in GPA activities. The review aims to inform future activities of all SAICM stakeholders, and will be considered by the Second Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG-2) scheduled to convene in December 2014.
