iomlogo16 July 2013: In order to help expose the linkages between human mobility, the environment and disasters, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has launched the Compendium of Activities on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Resilience.

The Compendium draws on lessons IOM has learned from its interventions in the field to illustrate the complex nexus between the environment and migration. It aims at exploring the multiple ways in which mobility influences vulnerability and resilience at the individual, community and society levels, as well as at highlighting how innovative solutions can be used to reduce environmental risks faced by mobile populations, as well as by their communities of origin and of destination.

The Compendium opens with an analytical overview that highlights the complex role of mobility in influencing people’s and communities’ vulnerability and resilience to disasters. In a second part, it provides a thematic overview that outlines, for the first time, the mobility and risk reduction nexus in 19 Thematic Brief articulated around the migration crisis management cycle featuring DRR, disaster risk management, and climate change adaptation from a mobility perspective. The third part of the Compendium includes 33 country profiles from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
